Tall Sailing Ships

April 21, 2018  •  Leave a Comment

The era of Tall Sailing Ships have always intrigued me since I was kid.  While visiting Pensacola Florida, we had the unique opportunity to see several vintage Tall Sailing Ships under full sail in Pensacola Bay and then dock at Palafox Pier.

Participating Tall Ships:

  • Oosterschelde - 160' three-masted, topsail schooner, built in 1918 and is the largest restored Dutch sailing ship.
  • Elissa - 205' three-masted, iron-hulled sailing ship built in 1877 in Aberdeen, Scotland
  • When and If - 83’ Alden schooner, commissioned by General George S. Patton in 1939.
  • Oliver Hazard Perry - 200' civilian sail training vessel in the U.S. and largest ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years.
  • Picton Castle - 179' three-masted barque based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Here are a few photos of our trip.
