Great Sand Dunes National Park
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is located on a large area of High Desert land in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado (USA). The sand dunes rise approximately 750 feet above the valley floor and are tallest sand dunes in North America, covering about 19,000 acres. The dunes were formed from sand and soil deposits of the Rio Grande and its tributaries, flowing through the San Luis Valley. Photo by James C. McDaniel III.
