2017 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

October 07, 2017  •  2 Comments

Jocelyn and I finally made it to the premiere balloon event in the world, the 2017 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.  We arrived the day before the opening day of the event, got a good nights rest and departed for the event at 0330, (yes it was way too early).  The weather was perfect and we were able see all the highlights:  "Dawn Patrol", morning "Balloon Launch", afternoon Hydrogen Balloon launch, evening "Balloon Glow" and the Fireworks finale.  It was a long day, but well worth it.  We were a little concerned that the event would be too crowded, but were pleasantly surprised to find the event grounds easily accommodated the fiesta.

Highly recommend you put the 2018 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta on your travel plans for next year.  It was a blast.

Here are a few images and short video from our visit.

A few tips:

- Drive to the event and pay for parking.  The advertised "Park and Ride" did not work this year and many people missed the event opening.

- Arrive early to beat the parking congestion.  We arrived at 0400 and it took about 20 minutes to get to a parking area.

- Dress in layers, early morning temperature was 38 and by noon it was in the 80s.
